Hattie has been a Lower School Facilitator at Riley School since 2020. She moved to Maine with her family after living in Northern California for 10 years. She is originally from Cape Cod, where she grew up in a fishing family, wandering the clam flats and exploring the woods, beaches and ponds. She graduated with a degree in Education and French, with certification in Early Childhood Education. Her love of travel and seeing new places has brought her to many different parts of the world, each place where she has found herself working with young children and gaining experience teaching to a variety of age groups and school environments. Some of her recent work experience includes: teaching at a nature preschool, garden coordinator and teacher at a K-8 charter school, program completion at the California School of Herbal Studies, attendance at The Alliance Francaise, participation and affiliation with the School Garden Network, and various workshops on nature connection with Jon Young and The 8 Shields Art of Mentoring. Hattie has a deep connection with nature, a love of gardening and being outside, and a passion for teaching and being around children. She aspires to encourage learning in an outdoor setting as much as possible, where the innate curiosity of childhood, and the wonder of the natural world come together to create a rich and meaningful learning experience. She is happy to be living in coastal Maine, where the salty air and changing tides make her feel at home.
