Alixis returning to the Riley School after years of living on islands off the coast of Maine with her family.  Ever since she was tiny, she has loved to observe the world around her, taking in people’s unique and lovely traits, the negative space between all things, and the light shifting over the landscape as the day and season shift.  She has always loved to create with her hands and recite poetic and playful verses.  Her love and curiosity of people and beauty have always been a perfect fit to her love of making.  For much of her life, she found learning to be the most exciting when beyond the classroom walls.  She has filled many bags and pockets and the back of truck beds with treasures and stories and often material left behind in dump piles and on the ocean’s edge.  She loves working with people of all ages and had her first teaching experience as a teenager when she became an assistant at Summer Festival of The Arts on Mount Desert Island where she grew up.

Alix attended the University of Maine in Orono and received a Bachelor's Degree in Art Education.  Since graduating, she has worked in various educational settings and with kids of all ages.  She has taught classes at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art (CMCA), The Farnsworth Art Museum, Hurricane Island Summer Camps, The Langlais Preserve, and OUT Maine.  In 2024, she received the Outstanding Service through the Profession award from the Maine Arts Education Association.

Since returning home to the mainland, you can often find Alix nestled in at home with her husband and two sons.  She meanders to and from her garden, to her art studio, to her outside art projects, and around and around.  She is very excited to be returning as a Facilitator at the Riley School, a place she loves dearly.
