Brad Choyt

With over three-decades of service in a wide range of school settings, Brad is actively engaged in Maine’s educational ecosystem as a member of three school boards: Regional School Unit #13; the Mid-Coast School of Technology; and the Maine School of Science and Mathematics. Since 2016, Brad has also served as a Commissioner for the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) on the Commission for International Education and leads school accreditation visits each year. 

A graduate of Brown University and the University of Pennsylvania, Brad began his career teaching at two New England boarding schools: Miss Porter’s School in Connecticut and St. Paul’s School in New Hampshire. He also served as the first Director of Education at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York City.

Brad’s first headship was as the Founding Director of Green School in Bali, Indonesia, a renowned school devoted to environmental practices in education. While in Bali, he was instrumental in developing a 20-acre campus with over 40 buildings made entirely from sustainable materials. Brad then returned to the United States to serve as the Head of Blue School in New York City, a school founded by the Blue Man Group, whose mission focused on developing innate creativity with an emphasis on social-emotional learning. More recently, Brad has served as the Head of School at North Yarmouth Academy, a Pre-K through 12 school in southern Maine, and Crossroads Academy, a K-8 school in the Upper Valley of New Hampshire.

Thanks to Brad’s experiences as an educator, Commissioner, and Head of School, he brings extensive knowledge of pedagogy and curriculum, instructional coaching, learning impacts and assessment, school growth, and organizational improvement. During the 2025-26 school year, he worked with the Riley community to develop the school’s strategic plan and has offered professional development for Riley’s facilitators since 2024. He is excited to extend and deepen his involvement as the Interim Head of School and work more closely with the faculty, Board, parent community, and students to sustain and nurture an environment whose mission supports students to “express themselves and develop their own intellectual and creative capabilities through experimentation, discovery, and vigorous engagement.”
