Kyle is a woodworker, sailor and music educator who comes to us after finishing his 2 year apprenticeship in wooden boat building at The Apprenticeshop. After studying music at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, Kyle moved to Atlanta where he taught at two independant schools focused on alternative education. An eclectic learner and eternally curious, he found himself teaching a variety of classes including social studies, creative writing and leadership skills alongside his various music classes.

Kyle, a klezmer clarinetist by training and education, believes in music as a communal activity and focuses his classes on ensemble music making. After starting a concert band program in Atlanta, he sought to make ensemble music more accessible to his students and introduced the school to steel pan, an instrument and type of ensemble invented in Trinidad and Tobago. Following that success, after moving to Maine, he founded Pen Bay Pan, a steel band organization that rehearses and runs classes on the Riley Campus.
