Alexandra (Alix) Martin was born not far from potato fields and the Canadian border but grew up on the coast of Maine being surrounded by waves, art and fisherpeople, all of which have inspired her much of her life. Alix graduated from the University of Maine in Orono with a major in Art Education and a minor in Art History. Aside from earning a degree in Art-related things, Alix has facilitated in a variety of settings and to children ranging from 2 to adulthood. The first place she worked as an assistant teaching printmaking, drawing and painting was when she was sixteen at The Summer Festival of The Arts in Southwest Harbor. Alix was the Art facilitator at the Riley School for two years before becoming a mom. Since becoming a mom life has been an inspired storm of diapers, quick sketches, projects with toddlers and a shifting of perspective in many aspects of life. She has begun an arts program at The Farnsworth with toddlers and has volunteered and been involved with the Bash events at the museum with other area artists for the past few years. She has attended Haystack on Deer Isle and taken other arts related courses. She has been getting excited about new art projects and she is very excited to be back at Riley, a place she loves dearly.
