The Riley School in Glen Cove, Maine, offers our College for Kids Arts and Science Workshops for boys and girls ages 7 to 15 during the summers. The Riley grounds encompass 45 acres of fields and pond, forest and cove, a beautiful and fun place for kids to spend summer days creating together with professional practitioners in Music, Photography, Visual Arts, Film, Pottery, and Environmental Science.

The College for Kids provides the opportunity for outstanding local artists and scientists to share their talents by offering children hands-on, practical learning experiences in their fields of expertise. This exposure will allow children to participate with a definite goal and provide them with a sense of accomplishment, meeting the challenge to experience their own artistic and inventive giftedness.

With the current budgetary cutbacks in many schools, children are not offered arts opportunities as in the past. Riley School Founder Glenna Plaisted is pleased to offer these creative and in-depth summer workshops through College for Kids, where children will find opportunities for self-expression through the arts and science.

"Children love to dream, pretend, and express. These workshops are a place for children to have fun and be engaged in learning an art form of their choosing, adding their own creativity as they learn, just as young adults do when they go to college." says Ms. Plaisted.

In addition to the arts programs, an environmental scientist will guide children in an outdoor exploration of the fields, stream, pond, forest and oceanfront of Riley's 45 acre campus. A greenhouse and science lab are available to augment outdoor explorations.

In the spirit of the Riley mission, which asserts the natural genius and creativity intrinsic in all children, College for Kids will foster and promote each child's unique qualities and talents. Enrollment is limited, and children will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be some financial assistance available.
